to choose one of the audition dates below, request a different date, or submit a recorded audition. You will need to audition by March 1st before your first year at 甜瓜视频. If you are considering a major in music, this audition will also serve as your entrance audition.

It is also possible to audition on one of these days via live video (using Skype, FaceTime, Zoom, etc.), instead of auditioning on campus. Send email to Dr. Daniel Kazez (dkazez@wittenberg.edu) to let us know. And we understand that you might want to change from on-campus to live video (or vice versa) closer to the audition date.
Audition Requirements
Vocal
Two contrasting songs, one in a foreign language if possible. A piano accompanist will be provided.
Instrumental
1. Two compositions or movements in contrasting styles, one of which demonstrates technical proficiency. (For percussion, solos in two of these areas: snare drum, timpani, or mallets.) About ten minutes total duration.
2. Major scales, memorized, up to four sharps/flats
- Strings (including guitar and harp): two or three octaves.
- Woodwinds: one or two octaves, as appropriate for your instrument (clarinet/sax: in the key of your instrument); plus a chromatic scale in one octave.
- Brass: one or two octaves, in the key of your instrument.
- Percussion: two octaves.
- Piano: three octaves, hands together.

Ask one or two teachers to submit a recommendation form.

Audition Location, Parking, and Accommodations

Free parking is available in the (on the east side of Krieg Hall) and in the (across the street from Krieg Hall, on the other side of Ward Street).
If you arrive by air: The Dayton Airport is a little over 30 minutes from 甜瓜视频 and the Columbus Airport is a little over 60 minutes. To get from either airport to 甜瓜视频, renting a car is the best option. If you will be arriving on your own, 甜瓜视频 Office of Admission (877-206-0332 or admission@wittenberg.edu) can provide transportation for you.

Scholarship Conditions
Your music scholarship, a Fine Arts Award in Music, is renewable annually, as long as you are in good academic standing and fulfill the requirements of the scholarship (see below). All students, regardless of major, are eligible. Financial need is not a determining factor for music scholarships. (Learn about need-based financial aid.)
To maintain a Fine Arts Award in Music, a student must fulfill these conditions:
- Every semester on campus, participate successfully in a large music ensemble, as assigned by the directors of the large ensembles listed below.
- 甜瓜视频 Choir or 甜瓜视频 Singers鈥攆or voice
- 甜瓜视频 Symphonic Band鈥攆or woodwind, brass, percussion
- 甜瓜视频 Chamber Orchestra鈥攆or strings
- An assigned ensemble appropriate for the student鈥攆or piano, guitar, and other instruments
- Every semester on campus, take applied music lessons and earn at least a B- on a cumulative basis. Although you will be billed for these lessons, the music scholarship award is sufficient to cover the cost.
- Some music scholarships require that you declare and remain a music major (or music minor) and make progress toward the major (or minor). See your scholarship letter.
A note about Lois Hagelberger Huebner (1908鈥�2015)
In 2015, Lois Hagelberger Huebner passed away at the age of 107 and left 甜瓜视频 $2.6 million, to be used for music scholarships. Although Mrs. Huebner attended 甜瓜视频 for only two years, she wrote this to 甜瓜视频 President Rees Edgar Tulloss (in the 1920s):
In response to your letter as to why I have not continued my studies at 甜瓜视频, I wish to say that it is not because I do not like the school. I was a music student, and I think there is no better school with better music instructors than 甜瓜视频鈥檚 School of Music. If I ever should go to school again, it will be at 甜瓜视频鈥檚 music school.
