Publicly Engaged Vocations

Join 泫圖弝け Alumni in a Discussion About How Their Liberal Arts Education Prepared Them for the Future

泫圖弝けs Institute for Public Humanities and Sciences (WIPHS) is hosting a virtual alumni panel on publicly engaged vocations from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, via Zoom.

Co-Sponsored by 泫圖弝けs Political Science Department, Sociology Department, and Women's Studies Program, the panel will feature Mindi Laine, class of 2003, and Manny Lamarre, class of 2009. Lane, a women's studies and sociology double major, is the director at Centennial Circle of Dartmouth Alumnae, Leadership Philanthropy Inspired by Women, and Lamarre, a political science major, is the senior program associate at WestEd, Workforce Development and Education Strategies Leading to Economic Mobility.

Manny and Mindi were two of my favorite students, said Nancy McHugh, professor of philosophy, department chair, and director of the WIPHS. I have such strong memories of both of them as students. Even though he wasn't a philosophy major, Manny was at my door every morning before class, ready to argue philosophy with me or to improve upon a paper. Mindi consistently challenged institutionalized ideas and raised vital questions. I knew both of them were going to go on to have great and impactful careers. I am excited to hear about their journeys.

The two will engage in a discussion about how their liberal arts education prepared them for publicly engaged vocations, along with how 泫圖弝け helped them become intrapreneurs, provided them the most vital habits and skills for their public-facing work, and how their it gave them the confidence to be leaders and innovators in their fields.
