Lecture On Female Body Image

Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ Hosts Presentation By Christine Ann Smith

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Members of the Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ University community will have the unique opportunity to attend a presentation on a pertinent topic in today's society – female body image. A lecture by Christine Ann Smith, assistant professor at Antioch College, titled "Female Body Image: Media Culture and Identity" is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, in Room 105, Joseph C. Shouvlin Center for Lifelong Learning.

Sponsored by Kappa Delta sorority and the Women Advocating Gender Equity (WAGE) Womyn's Center, Smith's presentation will focus primarily on an advertising campaign by Unilever, the company that produces Dove pro-age products. This controversial campaign features various women in the nude, purposely contrasting the common ideal of beauty in society.

Smith, a social psychologist, teaches in many areas of psychology, including psychology of race and class, women and gender studies. She has studied issues of body image and weight, fat stigma, feminist identification and the media and body shapes.
