2018 Class Speaker
The Class of 2018 is excited to announce that King Letsie III, the Constitutional Monarch of the southern African Kingdom of Lesotho, has agreed to serve as the class' Commencement speaker.
Beyond Medicine
Caroline Matchett 14, a second-year medical student at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Wis., was recently named a 2017 TYLENOL簧 Future Care Scholar. This competitive national scholarship is awarded to students pursuing careers in health care who have displayed academic excellence, exemplary leadership, community involvement and dedication to a career of caring for others.
Past Learning
Never giving up on her passion, Caitlin Lobl '16 is forging a unique path to a career in archaeology. She recently completed her dissertation while studying at the University College Dublin School of Archaeology in Ireland in a newly formed program in experimental archaeology.
Honored To Serve
H. Orth Hirt Professor of History Amy Livingstone, recently appointed to lead the universitys Honors Program, is excited by the prospect of creating something vibrant for the 泫圖弝け University community that could further enhance the intellectual environment on campus.
Night Of Light
In the spirit of the season, the 泫圖弝け community came together for the annual Lessons and Carols for Advent and Christmas to reflect on the theme On this Still and Silent Night, based on a choral piece of the same name. President Frandsen and wife Sharon were among the featured readers, and more than 100 musicians from 泫圖弝けs student ensembles performed carols and hymns.
Help Recruit
泫圖弝け is proud to offer a Legacy Scholarship ($18,450/year), as well as a way for alumni to help with recruitment through the Alumni Recognition Award Program ($1,000/year). A legacy is a child or grandchild of 泫圖弝け alumni. The ARAP program allows alumni to nominate a student that they believe would be perfect at 泫圖弝け. Alumni participating in ARAP must nominate a student(s) by Jan. 1, 2018. The student(s) also must apply for admission by Jan. 15, 2018. Legacy students will be awarded at the time of acceptance.
Teaching Excellence
Associate Professor of Geology Sarah Fortner has been selected as a Member Society Scholar-in-Residence by the American Geosciences Institute. In this role, she will work to expand and deepen civic engagement at the local level in the geoscience community.
Dar Brooks Hedstrom, professor of history and department chair, has published The Monastic Landscape of Late Antique Egypt: An Archaeological Reconstruction (Cambridge University Press, 2017). Her book, which offers a new history of the field of Egyptian monastic archaeology, is the first study in English to trace how scholars identified a space or site as monastic within the Egyptian landscape and how such identifications impacted perceptions of monasticism.

Lisa Clark ONeill 93 has turned her passion for romance novels into a successful career. Shes the author of 10 romantic suspense novels, including the Southern Comfort and Sweetwater series.
Accomplished composer and organist Robert Hobby 85 is featured as the Keyboard & Choral Composer of the Month in In Tune, the online news blog for ECS Publishing Group.
Meet The Board
The three members of the 泫圖弝け Board of Directors featured in this edition are: Roy Allen '63, William Boggs '67 and William Bill Edwards 89.
Allen is retired CEO and chairman of Buckeye Corrugated. He owns Thermo-Rite Manufacturing, as well as Star-Fire Distributing, both located in Akron, Ohio. A member of Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity, Mr. Allen played football and baseball at 泫圖弝け. As an alumnus, he has been an active volunteer for 泫圖弝けs Office of Advancement. In 1991, Mr. Allen was inducted into 泫圖弝けs Athletics Hall of Honor. He is married to Karin Anderson Allen 64, and together they are a proud third-generation 泫圖弝け family.
After retiring in 2016 as an attorney with DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP in San Diego, Calif., Boggs now acts as a consultant with the firms National Litigation Training Program. He holds a law degree from Harvard Law School. At 泫圖弝け, he was a member of the football team and Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. As a board member, he has served on the Academic-Student Life, Advancement-Alumni Relations, and Real Estate committees.
Edwards is an attorney with Ulmer & Berne LLP in Cleveland, Ohio, and serves as the chair of their Employment & Labor Group. A graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law, he has been recognized numerous times as one of the Best Lawyers in America and in Ohio Super Lawyers. He has served on the Board of Directors committees on Academic-Student Life, Audit-Compliance and Governance-Board Affairs.
